OH&S INFORMATION CIRCULAR

WorkCover has released the draft Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2000 for public comment . This draft Regulation will replace all 36 Regulations currently made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Factories, Shops and Industries Act and the Construction Safety Act. It will also replace the Construction Safety Act and Part 3 of the Factories, Shops and Industries Act.

The draft Regulation sets out requirements for a risk management system. It continues existing requirements for manual handling, hazardous substances, noise control, certificates of competency, business licensing, injury reporting and OHS Committees and introduces revised requirements for the working environment, plant safety, inorganic lead, and carcinogenic substances. The plant requirements implement the National Standard for Plant which was declared by NOHSC in 1994.
