INDUSTRIAL ACTION 31 MARCH 2004
The National Tertiary Education Union has advised that its members have voted to take industrial action over enterprise bargaining for 24 hours on 31 March 2004.
If you support this industrial action by not attending for work, you will have pay deducted for the day. Leave will not be approved nor may there be an adjustment through the normal variable hours arrangements.
If you received approval to take leave by 26 March you will be able to take that leave. Sick leave will be approved on production of a medical certificate.
During this industrial action, the University expects that staff on picket lines and staff seeking to enter will behave appropriately and will not intimidate or endanger others. If you take a personal decision to follow a union direction or your conscience and not cross picket lines, your absence from work will be considered to be support for the industrial action.
As the strike action has been called by the National Tertiary Education Union which has coverage of Academic and General staff at Macquarie, the University will assume that all staff will be on strike on that day.
A deduction will be made from your salary unless leave has been approved or you advise Workplace Relations & Services that you did not participate in the strike. Deductions will take place automatically in the pay of 13 May 2004 and advice should be provided as soon as possible but by no later than 3 May 2004. You should complete Form 17.17a to advise Workplace Relations & Services. The form is available at http://www.pers.mq.edu.au/Forms/17/index.html
